It was bound to
happen. So much hiking, and climbing,
and trail blazing. Someone was bound to
injure themselves, or at the least feel a little sore. Stephen broke his ankle a while back and was
feeling the affects after four days of rock climbing. We decided to take a break from hiking the trails at Acadia, and head
into town – the famous Bar Harbor.
We woke up late, had our coffee at leisure, and went to find an interesting place for lunch (hopefully with no lobsta). The wonderful thing about Mt. Desert island, is no matter where you are driving on the island, it's inevitable to run into Acadia or any registered state trails. We actually took a wrong turn and ended up 'lost', however what we actually came across the gem that is Cooksey Overlook.
Bar Harbor is
exactly like Key West. Instead of
pastels, everything is navy and red.
Instead of crabs and shells, everything is a lobster. The t-shirts, coffee mugs, magnets, and novelty items are exactly the same as I've grown up with, just with a slightly classier twist. Cruise ships even disembark in the harbor, proving my point further Bar harbor truly is the Key West of the Northeast.

WE'VE SPOTTED A RELIC

On our journey back to Northeast Harbor, we found another overlook along Park Loop Road. You could take a different route from Bar Harbor to Northeast Harbor and find new exploration sites each time.

| I claimed this rock Katie Rock - it was so frigid |
Once we returned to Borderlea, there was one thing I still wanted to accomplish - a run along the cliffs. I jogged along the same mile and half stretch twice in order to take in the coastal views (twice), along with the sunset. Despite the terrain being chock full of steep inclines, I never felt as sweaty as I do on a jog in South Florida. I even wore long sleeves and was still incredibly chilly.

Again, cocktail hour at Borderlea got the best (I can't imagine how there is any life after sunset with the social norm of daily cocktail hour) of us along with an
aggressive match of badminton (I've gotten so good the Frazer's actually wanted me on their team).
We didn't decide to venture into downtown
Northeast Harbor for dinner until almost nine. Turns out, 'summer' doesn't officially start until the week of July 4th, resulting with everything in the downtown area being officially closed for winter. We subsequently dined on spaghetti & red wine, totally acceptable by my standards.
